Determining the flow of small rivers

Hello

looking for a non profit project that visualizes flow and level of European rivers for paddlers.

I am wondering if on sections where no technical installation with a corresponding output value is available, the processing of satellite images could be a solution.

Therefore, does one think that:

  • the resolution of the available images is high enough for smaller rivers where even the widest section is about 10 meters estimated in width?
  • a processing aside visual image detection is possible due to cloudy skies?

Thanks in advance for responses to these very low basic questions first.

Hi,

this is a pretty hard problem to tackle, but it should be doable under certain conditions You might want to look at published articles like this one: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0048969721028333
