Harmonised landsat sentinel product atmospherically corrected

Does the harmonised landsat sentinel (HLS) product provided in the sentnel hub EO browser is atmospherically corrected?

Hi Sarah, this is described in our documentation:

Input products are Landsat 8-9 Collection 2 Level 1 top-of-atmosphere reflectance and Sentinel-2 L1C top-of-atmosphere reflectance, which NASA radiometrically harmonizes to the maximum extent, resamples to common 30-meter resolution, and grids using the Sentinel-2 Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) UTM grid. Because of this, the products are different from Landsat 8-9 Collection 2 Level 2 surface reflectance and Sentinel-2 L2A surface reflectance. Learn more about the data here.

In addition, in the link to USGS, they describe the products as:

  • S30: MSI harmonized surface reflectance resampled to 30 m into the Sentinel-2 tiling system and adjusted to Landsat 8/9 spectral response function.
  • L30: OLI harmonized surface reflectance and Top-of-Atmosphere (TOA) brightness temperature resampled to 30 m into the Sentinel-2 tiling system.

So, yes it is surface reflectance (except the brightness temperature that is TOA). However, it’s important to note that the product is different than the surface reflectance products from the individual sensor data collections.

I was confused because while downloading the data the bands are shown under the category Raw as given in the screenshot attached here.

Yes, by “Raw” this means that you are downloading individual bands rather than a visualisation like the options on the left column. For instance, if you download the Visaulized NDVI layer, you are downloading an RGB image that visualises NDVI rather than the NDVI values themselves.

To download the native spatial resolution and sampleType, I recommend using the below parameters in EO Browser:

Thanks a lot William for helping out.
