Is the Sentinel-1 sigma nought sign right?

I get really large sigma nought dB values, some even >40, even over vegetated areas, what I believe it’s bizarre. Should I just change the sign?

Just in case it matters, I get the data through the python API.

That does seem a bit odd.
Lets check first:
How are you doing the conversion to decibel?
What is the output format you are using?
